I'm thinking about buying a JD 2210 with the 210 53" loader. I've got some lanscaping that is going to require me to dig into some sod ground, mostly clay. I asked the dealer if it was capable of digging in clay ground. He wasn't sure but thought it would. If anyone has experience with it's digging abilities I would appreciate the input. Thanks!

I've only had my 2210 for a week so take my two cents for what it is worth. I've been moving a pile of dirt and the loader has impressed me in that it has no problem picking up a full bucket of dirt, tractor seems to have plenty of power. I would say you will not have a problem tearing up the sod but if the clay is hard it maybe slow going, just not enough weight on the front to force the bucket down into hard ground. You really need some ballast on the back with the loader, maybe a good box blade for ballast would loosen up the clay first. I'm still waiting for my box blade to see how that works.

Yeeek, sod & clay, sound like you have a most difficult job ahead of you. You may what to get someone to break up that sod for you, then you can us the little J.D to move it around...
You could try a box blade with scarifier to loosen the soil. Once loosened you can then use the loader bucket to haul it anywhere you want... ....

Teeth on the bucket helps the digging ability a lot.
But you won't do as pretty of a job smoothing with them on there.

Don't know if mine would "dig into clay", but it will move full buckets of loose gravel, and soil. ....

When I removed some sod I used my box scraper scarifiers just deep enough to cut through the sod in one direction and then repeated going across the cuts so I had squares of cut sod. The box was rolled up and held off the ground with the 3ph. I repeated going across the cuts to sort of make squares of cut sod. The squares mostly pulled off the soil with the box rolled down and the scarifiers retracted. It wasn't quite as neat a process as it might sound but many of the sod pieces were large enough to be used elsewhere. The soil is sandy here and I don't know how well it'd work on clay.
A loader tooth bar should be capable of cutting sod but the teeth would be pushed through the sod rather than pulled through like with the box. The tendency would be to jack-knife the tractor and loader, which would lift the front and remove most traction from the front tires. The rear tires probably would spin frequently. It might work better with the lift in float, but if the bucket digs in too much the bucket sticks and the tractor jack-knives over the bucket. Actually it's pretty easy to break a loader doing this sort of thing, so ground speed should be slow.

I have ground which is only clay. I have used my loader to create a drainage ditch in front of my house and then remove sod and clay for a driveway on the other side of my house. I has plenty of power, and I noticed that when I would occasionally dig the loader in a little too far and oooooops a hole I have to fill in. ....

I used my 2210 to dig into the clay soil I have at home for a landscapeing project this spring. Not the fastest for digging up a raw clay soil but it did get the job done. I have a 50" bucket. ....
